Kant was born in the small village of Albadaria, French Guinea. At the age of six, he began learning to play the balafon, an African xylophone. He later added the kora, a 21-string harp, to his repertoire. In the 1970s, Kant moved to Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and formed the band Volo Volo. The group achieved international success with their hit song “Yaaba”.
