He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1960 and started playing guitar and writing songs while attending the University of Calgary. In the early 1990s, he formed the folk-rock duo The Rugburns with drummer and singer Rob MacLeod. The Rugburns released six albums, toured extensively, and had a number of hit singles, including “One More Song About You” and “God Shaped Hole”.
