Makanda Ken McIntyre (born September 7 1931) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer.
He was born in Boston Massachusetts. McIntyre started playing the clarinet at age 10 and switched to the alto saxophone in his teens. He studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and the Manhattan School of Music where he studied with Jackie McLean Sonny Rollins and J.J. Johnson.
In the early 1960s McIntyre worked with Yusef Lateef and Donald Byrd. In 1965 he moved to Europe where he worked with John Coltrane Charles Mingus Miles Davis and others. Want to more about Him?
